Welcome to another school year!

I came across a video on leadership, yet I do not remember anything else except the following..."Great leaders are great readers."  Now please understand, growing up I was not a reader.  I was one of those kids that had to be out and doing!  Reading to me was boring and only for the smart kids!  I must admit, I did not see myself as one of the smart kids while growing up.  When in college, I read because I had to.  It was not until my thirties, that I began to enjoy picking up a book and read.  Now, I must have a book with me wherever I travel and have committed to reading at least one book per yearly quarter.

Now back to the statement, ..."Great leaders are great readers."  In researching leaders and entrepreneurs, I came to find that there were common characteristics...

Determination.  Visionaries.  Motivators.  Communicators.  Decisive.

Yet, each one alluded to the importance of reading a book!  Some read a book a month!   Whenever a leader/entrepreneur was asked why they read, the answer was the same.  To challenge their mind and learn from the past!   Wisdom did not come by just meditating on it.  It came by learning from the past.  How true is Solomon’s words when he writes...

"My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; For length of days and long life; And peace they will add to you.  Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck; Write them on the tablet of your heart; And so, find favor and high esteem, In the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.  Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.  It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones."

                                                                                                                                                              Proverbs 3:1-8
